@Unity I can't turn off most plugins, because many of them are crucial to my game working and if I turn them off my battle system would break.


Adding onto what Sooz said, you may want to get into the practice of figuring out exactly which plugins you projects needs as early in development as possible, especially if they are crucial to how your game functions. That way you're not scrambling to figure out what's breaking something six months into your project when you added a bunch of new ones.

Also always remember that More Plugins do not necessarily make a better game.

Yes, making a game from scratch without any external sprites/scripts is a good idea.

The best way to get into making your own assets is to study other sprite styles and gradually pull away from it until you find a style that you can call your own. It doesn't happen overnight, so be willing to let yourself learn. Heck, I learned pixel art with Dragon Quest edits and frankensprites, which led to making my own.

Unless you're in a rush to make some big commercial game, in which case maybe hire someone or buy an asset pack.

I'm not sure what I'd do without this site. Being an unskilled artist at my age, I doubt I'd have the ability to nurture artistic skill in any capacity to satisfy what I'm looking for in my own games.

I think that's a lot of the reason I've enjoyed RMN over the years: It feels like online spaces for hobbyists and casual developers are gradually disappearing and it gets harder to feel comfortable when you're sharing mostly the same spaces with professionals, full-time indie devs, etc. I feel like this is one of the last places where I can go at my own pace and not worry about it.
